The Emergency Wormcasting Network
Insurgent American and the Outstitute are pleased to offer the inaugural
episode of the Emergency Wormcasting Network, a new radio interview show
that we hope will be a semi-regular feature here. In this first segment
DeAnander and Stan Goff (in cahoots with engineer/producer
James Minton),
got together via phone to discuss issues related to relocalization,
sustainability, and food praxis. We're presenting the discussion here as
3 separate MP3's for your streaming or downloading enjoyment.
What begins as a conversation about a "garden variety" [ha ha] dispute
between Stan and his HOA (Home Owners' Association) expands, over the
course of 85 minutes, into a wide and deep discussion of the politics
of suburban conformity, sustainability, and positive alternatives to
the atomized suburban lifestyle. In this episode, you'll discover:
- How to avoid the taint of "lower class cooties" through "conspicuous
consumption" behaviors
- How the suburbs resemble military barracks
- Some racial and class implications of Home Owners' Associations
- The importance of food security to any politics of resistance
- How the highly gendered "conquest meme" shapes our relation to the biotic/natural world
- How permaculture techniques and local autonomy combine to create a
healthier and more efficient food infrastructure
- Some ecologically sound and life-affirming alternatives to the wasteful and
alienating American Way of Life
We hope you'll be both informed and entertained by the discussion. We'll
keep a thread open at Feral Scholar
for discussion and feedback.
